What Is the Real Reason Alcoholics Anonymous Condemns the Use of Personal Willpower?
Question by abnjim5: What is the real reason Alcoholics Anonymous condemns the use of Personal Willpower?
In consistance with my continuing inspection of AA doctrine, I am convinced that these cultists use the “willpower” issue to indoctrinate desperate drug addicts (alcohol is a drug) into their midst. Interestingly, AAers believe that the use of willpower can only lead them to another drink of alcohol, relapse, and a life of addiction. To further their recruit strategy of the unsuspecting “newcomer”, they tell him that he is in “denial” if they disagree with this concept.
Unfortunately, there is no shortage of AAers in this US society and the world. Afterall, we need people of this mentality to keep the Bush’s in office and the 30 million of them vote Republican! But wait, perhaps human willpower can be used for the good and stop the warring or is that not possible without a “higher power”.
How to Talk to an Alcoholic About Getting Help: Do I Have Avoidant Personality Disorder? Help, Please..?
Question by Xx dark skye xX: Do i have avoidant personality disorder? Help, please..?
Sorry this is kinda long, but i would appreciate it greatly if you could read this.
I am 14 years old.. I have basically self-diagnosed myself with depression since i was 10. But recently I feel empty, I’ve started avoiding phone calls, text messages, people at the door. My friends invite me to go out but i always decline, its not like i don’t want to go.. but i just can’t be bothered. Thats never happened to me before.
I haven’t cried for about a year or so. The last time i cried was when i found out that my parents have hepatitis c. I have had a somewhat traumatic life compared to people my age. I was almost raped when i was 12. My parents were both heavy alcoholics, my father an ex drug addict and smoker. Both my parents were quite neglectful towards me, especially my dad, whom i no longer care about. I have been bullied for most of my schooling life. I started cutting myself when i was 11, but i rarely do it now.

Alcoholism And: Have You Ever Had Any Weird, Psycho or Creepy Co-Workers?
Question by senzuri: Have you ever had any weird, psycho or creepy co-workers?
When I was a sales clerk at Tower Records, I had quite a few, er, interesting co-workers, including quite a few who were simply not adjusted to the adult world. But the two particular ones that come to mind are “Rob” and “Maria.”
“Rob” was once a DJ and the manager of a small indie techno record store, but by the time he came to Tower when I was there, he was homeless, he often smelled, and he may have been a drug addict. I wonder exactly what happened to make him have such a mighty fall.
“Maria” was a Czech immigrant who had apparently been a concert pianist ten years before. I’m guessing her career was probably derailed by her alcoholism. She spoke awful English despite having been in America for a decade, she didn’t know how to use any computerized equipment, and she got fired after a week for wandering around aimlessly while drunk on the job.
