At What Point Would You Say Someone Is an Alcoholic?

Question by New Moon Daughter: At what point would you say someone is an alcoholic?
and not just a heavy drinker?

Like when is it at the point–in your opinion– that you say “hey, this person has a problem, and they need an intervention?”

Best answer:

Answer by Taken by a Texan
I’d say when they absolutely need to drink. If they can’t go a day without drinking, or when they do drink they get absolutely wasted. People who can’t find a “happy medium” with drinking are probably the ones who end up being alcoholics.

What Is the Reporter’s Moral Duty When Subject Is in Danger?

Question by mc93433: What is the reporter’s moral duty when subject is in danger?
I was watching the show “Intervention” last week. The unfortunate 22 yr old alcoholic man was hospitalized for alcohol poisoning. As he sat there talking to the camera he told them he was going to drink the hand sanitizer. He then proceeded to do just that. They filmed it, and added a disclaimer that drinking isopropyl alcohol is very dangerous.
Shouldn’t they have had an obligation to tell hospital staff?

Best answer:

Answer by Coca Cola Fan!
I used to work at the health dept. and we had homeless people coming in just to fill up their water bottles with the wall hand sanitizer because they were so desperate to get drunk. I think the cameraman should have alerted the staff because the whole reason for the show is for an Intervention.

Question by HN: How was gonorrhea treated “BEFORE sulfa drugs (1937), and what were the lifelong effects on the sufferer?
That is the World War “ONE” – 1920s period. Sulfa drugs were not available until 1937. Please don’t answer unless you are knowledgeable about this issue and period in medicine. Thank you for answers.

Generally only men were treated. The most grotesque treatment involved inserting a heated metal rod into the urethra. I guess to make sure that it stayed open so urine could pass while the debilitating effects of the disease attacked the brain.
