My mom went to the doctor about a and a half ago and the doctor said her thyroid seemed to be a bit ‘enlarged’. She went and had a ultrasound done and there was a yellow splotch (nodules). The doctor called my mom and said shes going “to need to have some tests done”. Tomorrow, she has to go drink some ‘Nuclear Dye’? Then has to go back 6 hours later? Then maybe again Friday? What is the point of this dye?
Also, I looked up the signs and symptoms of thyroid cancer and the only one that matches her is coughing and neck pain. My mom has a titanium plate in her neck and has had 2 neck operations so that cancels out the neck pain, and my mom has asthma which ALSO cancels out the coughing. She always feels fine. In fact she hasn’t felt poorly for a LONG time.
No one in my family has ever had cancer. Not even on my dads side. The only one who has, was my great grandma on my moms side and that was lung cancer due to smoking. How would my mom just randomly get thyroid cancer? My aunt on my dads side also had a ultrasound that showed nodules and she just had to have hers taken out and was put on some pill. Do you think my mom has thyroid cancer? I’m really worried. I’ve been praying every day and night that the results come back as negative for cancer.
Is it possible my mom has thyroid cancer? If she did, would the thyroid just need to be taken out as well as the lymph nodes around it and she’d be okay and cancer free? She’s been so stressed out after seeing the nodules on the ultrasound. She hasn’t been as hyper and funny as usual.
I heard thyroid cancer was pretty rare. Is that true? Neither sides of my family has a history of ANY cancer except my great grandma. Should I be worried? Do you think she does?
She went to the doctor for a physical. That’s why.

The dye moved through her system and allows the machine to pick it up like a photograph. Just let the doctor do his/her job! If something is wrong, then she needs to know.
