A lot more people claim to be working them than are working them.
I’ve been sober over six years, AA and trying to work the steps held me back from getting sober for years.
The idea that I was powerless over alcohol was an excuse for me (and many others) to keep drinking. In order for a person to make changes in their life, they need to feel EMpowered, capable of change.
AA is faith healing. They are telling you that you are too weak to quit drinking on your own, that you must pray to their God to lift the obsession to drink and if you do this properly, their God will remove that obsession, FOR ONE DAY. You must pray for it again tomorrow and every day for the rest of your life.
The God I was brought up with healed the lame and brought the dead back to life, their God can’t even cure alcoholism…I can do that, I did it by quitting drinking.
There is no magic way to quit drinking, you quit by stopping. You won’t die or go crazy if you don’t take a drink, although it may feel like it. If you really want to quit, every drink you take prolongs the process.
