Overcoming Alcohol Abuse: How Do I Cope With a Verbally Abusive Husband While He Is Drinking!?

Question by taylor: How do I cope with a verbally abusive husband while he is drinking!?
My husband and I have been married for almost three years. We already have a beautiful son who is two and I am four months pregnant now. In the past he has had drug addictions and alcoholism issues. He has currently been clean from cocaine for one year and just recently got his second DUI. For a whole he chose not to drink but has slowly incorporated it into his life again. When my husband is drink he is physically, mentally, and verbally abusive. He has head butted me in the face busting my nose wide open and has spit on me more than once. At times he has thrown beers in my face on public and has pushed me countless times. He has been good since i have been pregnant this tome around but Recently he has been drinking again like I stated previously and I see this starting back up. With my first pregnancy he was very bad to me. When my son arrived he seemed to try to get his shit together. For the last hour and a half I have been called the most god awful names told that I was nothing without him, that I am a grubby little pig as well as my fat family and will get nothing from him after our divorce, was told that I’m a c*nt that everyone hates and calls a bitch. That I have sucked him dry that his life is miserable because of me. That he is sorry he ever “impregnated” me and that is the only reason he married me. He grabbed the wheel with my son in the car and tried to make me stop the car on a highway. He turned an spit about four times in my face all the whole calling me names. I cannot handle this being pregnant and I want to leave him when he does this. Bit the next say he always apologizes and says he’s an asshole but somehow seems to make it be my fault. I just want my family together what can I do? Marriage counseling? Therapy for myself?
