During the past four months or so, I have had limited to no exercise due to personal issues, and have subsequently gained quite a bit of weight – at the time of writing, I’m somewhere around 190lbs, but due to being tall it doesn’t show too badly. Now that I have less things to worry about, I’m eager to kick-start my health again and exercise my way down to a normal weight. I’ve been cooking myself balanced meals, going for walks and occasionally taking short runs at night.
However, my problems have appeared during my runs. I’m an asthmatic, a problem I have had ever since I was a child, and I carry a blue inhaler with me most of the time but rarely have to use it. The first few times I went for my midnight jog, I recognized the typical symptoms of asthma coming on after a minute or two – tight chest, metallic taste in the mouth, pain when I breathed deeply – but didn’t think much of it, as I’m used to these sensations and have never had a severe asthma attack. I was also already fully aware of how unfit I had become and was expecting to feel some repercussions of some kind. At the time, I didn’t have my inhaler on me, so I just gritted my teeth and ran to the next bus stop to catch my breath.
What I wasn’t expecting was the terrible pain in my jaw. It was definitely not toothache, although I could describe it as similar; it ached the entire bottom of my jaw so badly that I was paralyzed at that bus stop for fifteen minutes. At first, it was severe enough to convince me my mouth was bleeding, but it soon became clear that it wasn’t. Although fainter, the pain lasted for another fifteen minutes or so after the initial spasm, but flared up again when I attempted to jog further, causing me to give up and walk back to my house.
Since then, I have only attempted to full out run once, with similar results. I first assumed it was a symptom of my asthma made worse by my terrible physical fitness, but after doing a bit of research on the internet, there have been instances of “heart problems” being mentioned. Being the secret hypochondriac I am, I’m worrying myself stupid about it now. Unfortunately, I’m unable to go to the doctor and check it out for myself; I’m in the process of switching to a different practice.
The questions are these: is there anyone who would be able to tell me what this pain could be and what the is cause? Is it true that it is a symptom of heart problems (if so, what kind? Is there anything I can do to rectify it?)? Is it possible that my few months of complete inactivity could have damaged my health so severely?

A few notes: I don’t smoke, rarely drink, take no drugs and I am a vegetarian. I therefore take supplements to replace the loss of iron in my diet. Before the prior four months, my diet was fairly normal and balanced (if not a little excessive), but during my inactivity it has been filled with foods high in fat and sugar, which I have now rectified. I also used to have an issue with my eating, where I went without food for an extended period of time; there was only one instance that occurred around half a year ago and has not been repeated since.
