Step Mom Thinks I’m Bi-Polar?

Question by singerofthepiano: Step mom thinks I’m bi-polar?
My step mom and I were talking a couple weeks ago about my depression and whatnot (I was diagnosed by my PCP when I was 18), and she had told me that she thinks I might be bipolar because of the way my “moods” are – like when I’m down, I’m really down, no one wants to talk to me because they’re afriad of what I’d do, but then I’ll turn around in a couple of days and be pretty happy and content. Does this sound bipolar or just severe depression? Any “warning signs” I should look out for?
No – I’m not on any medication at this time (since I am uninsured and can’t get in to see a doctor). I was, when I was first diagnosed with depression, put on three different meds, two at the same time. I was on welbutrin (for the day), trazadone (to put me to sleep), and then there was another one which I can’t remember the name.

As soon as I am able to get on insurance, I am hoping to get in to see a therapist/mental health person.

I was just wondering from you guys (which you ALL have been helpful, thanks!!) what I should be looking out for so I can keep it written down and tell the therapist/doctor when I’m able to get in.

You all have been very helpful, and will appreciate any additional answers people give!!
I guess choosing the word “content” was a poor choice of wording. It’s not that I’m content, I’m just not in a “crazy, could get really angry” state anymore.
