Adolescence is really a time of so many changes. And one of those is that teenagers are seeking to identify who they are as an individual. And a part of that process involves risk taking.

So, first of all, do not attempt to talk with them about their drinking after they have had some drinks or while they are drinking. If it is not possible to catch them at a time when they are not drinking then you just need to keep in mind that you will need to be much more sensitive and cautious when speaking to them at a time like that. They will be very defensive and may just refuse to speak with you, or worse, if you go in to full attack mode while speaking with them, they could become violent, do not overstep your boundaries when dealing with someone struggling with alcoholism.
