I’ve Been Sober for 2 Years and I’m Thinking About Relapsing. What Can I Do for Help?

Question by Judy: I’ve been sober for 2 years and I’m thinking about relapsing. What can I do for help?
I’m an alcoholic. I’ve been sober for 2 years. Recently, life has thrown me a curve ball and I’m just not where I thought I’d be. I’m forced to start over from scratch. On top of that, I just got out of a very long term relationship and am so hurt about it. Lately, I’ve really been wanting to get a drink. I keep rationalizing it that “I don’t know if I’m *really* alcoholic” “I can handle it now after 2 years” etc. etc. etc.

I don’t have much of a support system and I haven’t been to AA in about 2 years as well. I’ve been keeping sober on my own up to this point but… I’m really lost and even scared. What should I do?

Alcoholics ? What Happens When You Ignore Your Drinking Habits?

Alcoholics ? What Happens When You Ignore Your Drinking Habits?

Are you an alcoholic? Do you cringe at that thought? Do you have all the pat answers as to why your drinking is okay? Are you secretly avoiding admitting that you might be an alcoholic? Do you tell yourself that you an stop anytime you want?

What happens when you ignore your drinking habits? Actually, you’re ignoring the things that trigger you to drink. And ignoring problems just makes them worse. You end up in a downward spiral, ignoring all the signs of trouble.

That’s the problem with something that so easily takes away our emotional struggles. We end up using alcohol or some other drug instead of looking inside to see what it is we’re running away from. It could be something as simple as no purpose in life – or it could be some long-standing emotional pain. Pretty soon it becomes an unconscious habit to cover up even the slightest feeling of uneasiness.

Q&A: Do I Drink Too Much? What Do You Think?

Question by Anna: Do I drink too much? What do you think?
I’m looking for a little advice on my particular situation. I am 21 and have grown up in a very strict, Baptist family (my dad is a minister). I have always been very sheltered, but through college I became a little more “normal”. Because of my background, I find myself feeling guilty for things that I don’t think I should. Since my parents are very opposed to drinking and have been all my life (and since they don’t know I’ve ever even tasted it) I’m wondering if my guilt is because of them or because I actually do drink too much. What do you think?

Q&A: My Boyfriend and I Have a Daily debate…Tell Me What You Think…?

Question by Wanda K: My boyfriend and I have a daily debate…Tell me what you think…?
When I get off work, I like to have a glass of wine while I watch my nighttime programming. I usually only have 1 glass. Maybe on Friday, I may have 2. I don;t drive after I have had it. My 2 yr old is sleep and my 16 year old is usually in her room texting or talking on the phone or whatever. But I like to relax with a glass of wine. My boyfriend says that this is “not a healthy or normal relationship with alcohol”. He actually calls it “boarder line alcoholism”. I think that nothing is wrong with it. I am semi insulted that he calls me a boarder line alcoholic. What do you think?
