A Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court ruled that the HMO and drug group insurance and the cost of alcohol use coverage for the insured person shall be subjected to detoxification, rehabilitation and outpatient programs by a doctor or a psychologist. The unanimous decision by the state to help 15,000 residents with private insurance, who need help through drug detoxification and rehabilitation of drug each year.

A law of 1989 requires insurance companies to cover drug and alcoholDetoxification and rehabilitation services. Aetna, Independence Blue Cross sued the Insurance Federation of Pennsylvania and other groups of managed care, the State Department of Insurance, said that they should be allowed to review drug and alcohol addiction treatment referrals in order to ensure that treatment is appropriate. But the court with the interpretation of the Department of Insurance would be unilateral, that the care is covered until a physician or psychologist of alcohol or prescribed Program Drug Rehab.
