Tips for Cleaning Baby Crib Mattresses

Parents need to be very careful regarding baby cribs and other baby safety products for their infants. While buying baby cribs or baby crib mattress for your young one, you should be very careful about their quality and must keep in mind safety concerns of your baby. The most important factor is the amount of moisture conserved by infant mattress. Moisture breeds bacteria and other disease causing organisms.

But buying best mattress is not enough for prevention of breeding of harmful diseases. You need to be cautious about cleanliness of the mattress. Take care that the mattress is periodically cleaned and replaced with dry mattress. Unclean and improperly dried mattress leads to various infections. They have been reported to cause skin rash to the baby and also fungal problems at times.

If possible, see to it that baby crib mattresses are home cleaned. Simple washing will not suffice cleaning requirements of the infant mattress. Observe following methods for mattress cleaning purposes:

Cleansing Alcohol

Alcohol is very effective in getting rid of bacteria. Use cleansing alcohol to kill harmful microbes and bacteria in mattress. Do not dip entire mattress entirely in alcohol solution, but instead carefully spray it on some parts and rub it over other parts. Ensure that cleansing alcohol you are using is not very strong and is free from harmful ingredients.

Steam Cleaners

You can use steam cleaners to remove dirt and other grimy particles from mattress. Steam cleaning sterilizes the mattress. Also steam cleaning removes possibility of infection by strong washing agents.

Baking Soda

Mattresses usually get ill smelling because of baby urine. Also improperly cleaned urine from mattress causes discomfort to baby while sleeping because of unpleasant smell and retained moisture. You can remove this smell using baking soda. Take little baking soda and sprinkle it over entire mattress. Properly wet mattress, rub the sprinkled soda and leave it as it is for nearly 70-80 minutes. Then you can clean and dry your mattress using a vacuum cleaner.

Proper Drying

Perfect washing alone is not enough for a clean mattress. You should ensure that you get rid of any moisture in the foam or layers of mattress. Sun drying is advisable for removing moisture and disinfecting the mattress. Keep a set of mattresses so that you can easily replace the mattress with other while it is in wash.
