Should I Just Back Off? ?

Question by abbieneale1989: Should I just back off? ?
I’ve been living with my boyfriend and his mum for about 3 years. She’s always been a drinker, and has always admitted that she’s a “functional alcoholic” that doesn’t need help. But for the past year she’s become quite nasty when she drinks. Sometimes to me, but mainly to my boyfriend. The other night she went mad at him because she had yet another new man over and my boyfriend had come upstairs to talk to me. She reduced him to tears with the pure evil she was saying to him. She just kept going, kept putting him down. And I snapped. And I yelled at her, got into a heated argument and I haven’t spoken to her since. My boyfriend has thanked me for making her back off. But I spoke to my mum and she said I had no right to get involved and next time I should back off. All I wanted her to do was stop shouting at him and just leave him alone, but now I’m not sure what I’m meant to do. Am I meant to back off and leave her to it?
