Was This Really Really Terrible of Me? Would You Be Offended?

Question by .: Was this really really terrible of me? Would you be offended?
My good friend, has always been quite a heavy drinker. But recently she broke up with her husband and she’s been very upset, so for a few weeks she drank way too much. She was feeling awful, and it turned out she was actually having alcohol withdrawal symptoms. I have been a good friend over the last few weeks, looked after her, taken her to hospital etc etc.

Tonight, we went to a comedy show, and I was taken up onto the stage as a volunteer, and the woman presenting it said ” Are you with that lady (my friend), are you going to buy her a drink?” and I said “No” and then the presenter said “Why not?” and I couldn’t think of a lie quickly, and there were loads of people watching, and I felt under pressure so I said “Because she’s a recovering alcoholic!”. I can’t belleve I said it.

My friend laughed, and so did everyone else, so I think it was brushed off as a joke. But I feel SO bad. I appologised to my friend profusely. I didn’t mean it horribly, the truth just blurted out. Would you be upset?

No, I wouldn’t be upset. Some people are sensitive and some are not. You apologized enough, don’t be so distraught about it.
