Why Is Marijuana Illegal?

Question by Mrparanoid: Why is marijuana illegal?
it has no nicotine and its more of a social thing than an addicting thing (i refuse to call it a drug). I dont see how it can hurt you in anyway unless you do it all the time for social reasons (or maybe you have problems, but if that were the case they would have to make alcohol illegal too because there are more people abusing alcohol because of problems at home then there are people abusing marijuana because of problems at home). Why did the government make marijuana illegal if there are much more lethal “drugs” and items like Cigarettes and alcohol?

there’s no good reason; it’s been a scapegoat and too many people have bought into the false paranoia

few people ever mention the benefits of legalizing it so we can grow hemp crops…but look into the amazing things we could do with hemp:

And lhe biggest lobbyists against marijuana have a lot of sway: the alcohol industry, paper industry, cotton industry, tobacco industry, and lumber industries, all of these would be hurt by legalizing it.

We could make cleaner ethanol from hemp. We could make cheaper, more environmentally friendly wood, paper, clothing, plastics, about 20,000 products altogether.
We’d be able to grow this on American soil, so it would lower the amount we import. Hemp can grow after the normal crop season is over- it aerates the soil and can be part of a healthy crop rotation.

California is expecting a 3 BILLION dollar difference if marijuana is legalized (1 billion revenue and 2 bil less enforcement). Part of the tax money will go towards drug rehab programs. Some to schools.
3 Billion dollars. In just ONE state.
