Stress = Chronic Stomach Illness? Full Story.?
Question by Kyle B: Stress = Chronic Stomach illness? Full Story.?
I am 15 years old.
I started having stomach problems in 6th grade (4 years ago)
at first it was a little bit of acid reflux where that burning stuff would come into my throat. For that i would take a small PeptoBismal pill. I would take maybe one every month as needed.
7th grade was about the same.
In 8th grade my parents moved and I had to follow, shortly following, I became moderately depressed. I would be at home alone for 1 or 2 nights out of the week and sit and cry for hours. My stomach problems increased, causing recurring(every other night) nausea and indigestion, and every time I would experience my symptoms I would take a little Pepto. It got to the point where I was drinking a bottle of pepto bismal max strength alone in 2 weeks. In 9th grade I changed schools yet again in the middle of the year. My life seemed to improve from my point of view… I was closer to my old friends in my old school (from 8th grade), and my stomach problems seemed to gradually dissapear, but at the same time I started seeing a doctor that perscribed Omeprazole. Me not knowing which was the cause of me getting better, just continued my normal routine. In July after my Freshmen year my stomach condition took a turn for the worse. (curiously around the time that my dad who I have “issues” with was pressuring me to move out of my mother’s (My mother became disabled shortly after my parents divorced and I took care of her and she took care of me, making a strong bond.) house and move in with him so that I could go to my old school) The Omeprazole seemed to make no effect on my condition whatsoever. The doctor’s new perscription (that I am Currently on) is Zegerid[Sodium Bicarbonate/Omeprazole] which seemed to help but only in tiny increments… I was able to eat without the fear of throwing up, but I periodically would become nauseated enough that I could not sleep still. between July and September of 2008 I lost 30 pounds because I was afraid of eating and getting the sick feeling that followed. After the weight loss my mom arranged an appointment at children’s mercy where my doctor Ding You-Li perscribed to me amoxicillin in amounts of 50mg 3 times a day to change the environment of my stomach. Now I have been off of the Amoxicillin for approximately 4 weeks and am no longer nauseated constantly. Whenever I eat i get severe Indigestion which as far as I’m concerned I can suck up and deal with as long as I get to eat more then 4 chicken nuggets for an entire day. What brings me to my realization of the possible stress factor is that in the last week I got into my first sexual situation that ended up putting a lot of stress in me (I’m still a virgin & not a father) and I am also starting to feel worse.. My nausea seems to be slowly creeping back, and my indigestion persists even when I don’t eat. On a side note I am in my required school health class and it made me worry about my stress level because we took a stress level basic test. The Scoring System was <100=Low///100-160=Normal///160+=High... My score was an 873. =[ when I told one of my friends about it, his first reaction was "Do you have stomach problems?" I answered with a yes. He said "That is probably why." So I decided to reveal some of my story to the online community and see what you say. I have not addressed my mother or a doctor about stress being a possible symptom because whenever a doctor mentions it, my mother would shoot them down immediately saying that my life is virtually stress free. And incase your wondering. I am not an "Emo" kid with a death wish. I am a social non-prep kid, that just wants to find an answer to this. So please, If you have any advice at all, share it. =]

Acid inhibitors actually prevent the pyloric valve from closing which is allows the acid to leak up your throat. Ask your MD. I did and I logged EVERYthing I ate and drank. Over time I healed up. Stop soda and coffee immed. for starters. We need the acid to digest our food. Hope this helps.
