How Can I Prevent My Husband From Vomiting in Our Bed?
Question by Morgan: How can I prevent my husband from vomiting in our bed?
So my husband is a bit of a heavy drinker. I wouldn’t necessarily label him as an “alcoholic”, but the man certainly enjoys his liquor
Ordinarily this isn’t a big deal, but for the past few months he’s been vomiting in his sleep. He was recently diagnosed with a peptic ulcer and has been suffering from severe acid-reflux. Could his night vomits be related somehow?
I have to help him to bed most nights and I’ve been trying to be diligent in giving him his medication but it doesn’t appear to be helping. I’ve been leaving a bucket on the nightstand along with a note stating “Honey, please vomit in the bucket!”, but he doesn’t seem to have enough advance warning before it happens.
How can I prevent this from happening in the future? I’m getting pretty tired of washing the bedspread.
Thanks and God bless.

Elevate the head of your bed to keep acid down. Put bricks under the legs of the bed. Just elevating his head doesn’t work because bending at the abdomen can cause the acid to be pushed upward.
Don’t let him eat anything two hours prior to going to bed. The more that’s in his stomach at bedtime, them ore acid the stomach will be producing to digest it…however a couple tums right before bed might be a good idea.
It’s also possible he’s developed a lactose problem. If he eats or drinks dairy that happens to be coming up with the vomit, it may be worth researching.
