Invest In Your Recovery With Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation

In tough economic times, there’s no better investment in your future than in your own recovery. This especially applies to those who you are battling drug and alcohol abuse.

Some may find themselves in a vicious cycle of financial hardship and drug and alcohol abuse, which may have been only compounded by recent misfortunes. The key to self-recovery is to break the cycle through a professional rehabilitation program.

The Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration, headquartered in Rockville, Md., explains the problems related to tough economic times:
“Economic turmoil (e.g., increased unemployment, foreclosures, loss of investments and other financial distress) can result in a whole host of negative health effects — both physical and mental. It can be particularly devastating to your emotional and mental well-being. Although each of us is affected differently by economic troubles, these problems can add tremendous stress…”

As a result, SAMHSA notes, a variety of problems can arise:  These include:
1. Depression
2. Anxiety
3. Compulsive Behaviors (over-eating, excessive gambling, spending, etc.)
4. Substance Abuse

Stress management can play an important role in keeping a sound body and mind.  According to SAMHSA, the following coping techniques can help manage stress:

1. Trying to keep things in perspective — recognize the good aspects of life and retain hope for the future.
2. Strengthening connections with family and friends who can provide important emotional support.
3. Engaging in activities such as physical exercise, sports or hobbies that can relieve stress and anxiety.
4. Developing new employment skills that can provide a practical and highly effective means of coping and directly address financial difficulties.

Yet, not everyone deals with stress in the same manner. “Even with these coping techniques, however, sometimes these problems can seem overwhelming and you may need additional help to get through ‘rough patches,’ ” SAMHSA reports.

For those who are trapped by alcohol and drug abuse, it’s important to find a professional rehabilitation center. There is help for those who are willing to reach out for it.
