Might I Have ADHD or Depression?

Question by Dave: Might I have ADHD or depression?
I’m a 20 year old college student. I have trouble completing my assignments on time because I procrastinate chronically, and then have trouble focusing once I do get started. This has been a habit ever since high school. I’m occasionally forgetful and I’m also generally quite disorganized and my room and desk is almost always cluttered, which I have read to be symptoms as well. I am actually quite intelligent and my work is always decent once I complete it, but I’m fairly sure that it is not to the best of my ability and that my decent grades could be excellent grades if I wasn’t doing everything at the last minute. I have not talked with my parents or a doctor about this, I feel as though suggesting I have ADHD is such a cop out when in actuality I’m just unambitious and lazy.

I also feel somewhat depressed much of the time. I don’t feel happy often, but that isn’t to say that I feel very UNhappy. I don’t seem to feel strong emotions often, and it’s BORING. When I do, they are usually negative. I am anxious in social situations. My self-confidence and self-esteem aren’t great, but they also don’t seem debilitatingly low.

I have always had a number of very good friends, but I have never been in a relationship, and feel intensely lonely as a result. While this may be an effect of my “depression”, I recognize that this could likely be the cause.

Well, tell me what you think.
