Q&A: UN-Happy Mother’s Day…?
Question by awcl81: UN-happy Mother’s Day…?
5 years ago, my mother had an adulterous affair with her best friend’s husband. The marriage between my parents had failed after a combination of things, but whatever it is was, it still stands today that her way of “getting out of the marriage” was to have sex with her best friend’s husband first. They were working together, and one thing led to another.
So 5 years later, with each Mother’s Day approaching (and Father’s Day), I loathe and hate and can’t help but remember the destruction and pain my mother caused with her decision in leaving the marriage. What hurts the most is her yelling at us, not just my dad, that she wanted to leave the family.
So I have been wondering all these years: how do people like me cope? How do people who have abusive mothers, alcoholic mothers, drug-addicted mothers, etc. deal with “Mother’s Day”?
I’m not some kid who didn’t understand what was going on 5 years ago, which is why I hurt more. I’m turning 27 this August, and still can’t cope.
