Alcohol Moderation- What Else You Should Know

Controlled drinking never killed anyone and neither will it kill you, but the fact remains that you have to know what is ‘moderate’ for you and what is not. Even if you had problems with alcohol, you need to learn to say to yourself – when to stop and when that ‘moderate’ becomes ‘enough’.

Many people drink worldwide and even the people at the top of the Forbes list drink. The difference between the drunkard and them is that they have not made it a drink to curb stress and neither have they made it a last resort to wipe off all their problems.

Realization Dawns!

You need to realize that drinks are just drinks – they are had in occasions and out of pleasure. But when that very pleasure becomes an obsession, then you should know that you’re in trouble, big time! You need to stop the urge to have alcohol at the slightest pretext and minimize your drinking to almost nil levels.

One very important piece of research suggest that around 50% people who were diagnosed as alcoholic, returned to a normal life with moderate drinking and that too within 5 years! That is indeed an achievement for those labeled as ‘alcoholic’!

One important thing to notice here is that the people who were addicted were not wrong themselves but their addiction did them in. the end result shows that moderate drinking is never bad and has not caused any harm to them. In fact, they were able to lead perfectly normal lives after 5 years – shows that they were indeed normal people.

It though happens sometimes that due to some stress and emotional problems, people resort to alcohol because it gives them temporary relief. But the fact is that when its effect dies down, the feelings hit them harder. To counterbalance it, they again douse themselves in alcohol and thus begins what is known as – alcoholism.

Moderate Alcohol and Moderate Management

These people often ‘outgrow’ their habit of excessive alcohol consumption and can lead normal lives again, without any side-effects. The idea is simple – drinking in moderation. In fact, that applies to almost every aspect of our lives. What you need to do is to cut back on drinking and not look back.

Always remember that past was what you left behind and life always gives you a chance to start afresh! You need to utilize this unique aspect to your benefit.

Often people ask one question – Can an alcoholic ever return to a normal life? Can they drink socially and responsibly like people do? Of course they can. They just need help from their peers and family. Family is the best company they can have and surely they can reach controlled drinking with a little effort.
