Emotional Effects of Alcohol Abuse: Is There a Medical Condition That Causes the Mind Not to Age Past Childhood?
Question by Mario: Is there a medical condition that causes the mind not to age past childhood?
Please, no Michael Jackson jokes. This is serious. And I’m not referring to mental retardation or any of those MAJOR mental disorders.
Like, is it normal for a grown man to be so fond of his childhood that he can’t let it go. And even has child-like desires that most grown-ups overcome? You know, like be able to drive and act perfectly normal towards others, yet be SO different on the inside?
I know a person like this. He’s a great guy and kind to all, but he can’t seem to handle normal adult situations in life, such as major responsibilities or handling business matters. He said that he feels like a kid still, like his mind hasn’t matured past 14 or so. He still has a fondness for certain toys that he once loved as a kid (and even buys them sometimes) and he constantly reminisces about the good times of his childhood.
He has a girlfriend and he’s very concerned about having kids. His girlfriend loves him to death, but he’s afraid he may not be mentally capable of fatherhood because of still being a kid in his own mind. His girlfriend thinks that he’ll be a GREAT father because of being like a kid himself. But I’ve seen him panic in the simplest of situations. Any time an adult responsibility is handed down to him, he worries and fears until he almost makes himself sick. And he acts like it’s a death sentence whenever he has to use his money on car insurance etc. You know, important stuff.
Is this a real medical condition that causes the brain to stay young and never fully mature? He acts perfectly normal around most people. He’s good at hiding it most of the time. Nobody would believe that he’s this way just looking at him. But I think he’ll remain forever young.
