Common Symptoms of Stress: Can Anyone Please Tell Me if This Sounds Like Acute HIV Symptoms?

Question by Sean: Can anyone please tell me if this sounds like acute HIV symptoms?
I’m a 30 year old female. Exactly 6 weeks ago, I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend of 9 months but all of a sudden, I’m paranoid of possibly having contracted HIV although he is extremely low risk. He’s a health professional w/ a Ph.D & he does research in HIV positive women. When we first began being sexual, he ALWAYS brought & used condoms until I insisted on NOT using them after about 6 month. After the 1st several times of unprotected sex, he’d be extremely worried, paranoid & sometimes even remorseful since he knows the risk factors of HIV because that’s his profession & he researches it). So I figured he’s clean since he’s so paranoid about me & works in that field. Also, he doesn’t have a risky sexual past so I trusted him.

One week after our last encounter, I got a yeast infection (but I also started my birth control & I had also left a tampon in too long which I had difficulty removing because it was dry & tight). I got tested for all STD’S just to be on the safe side & all was negative except for yeast infection). Then I had developed a very small white lump near my clitoris which was full of puss (but then again, I had just waxed 3 weeks prior for the first time ever so I thought perhaps it was an ingrown hair?). All of a sudden, I have blemishes on my cheeks which I’ve NEVER had before but then again, I’ve been visiting Texas for the last week & jogging under the hot sun. The blemishes started out as a rosey pink but are now brown (I have olive complexion). Lastly, I woke with a sore throat yesterday which I hope is due to the freezing AC in my hotel. Also, one of my relatives has a bad cough & I’ve been close to him so I could’ve gotten my sore throat from him if not the AC)
I plan to get tested ASAP when I return to my hometown next week. But should I be worried if my above symptoms can be acute or early HIV symptoms? Thank you in advance!

This sounds extremely strange. Anybody who knows HIV well wouldn’t worry about it because they would know their own body and would know their partner and would know that the risk is so low when you know these two things that it’s not something to worry about, and what is there to be remorseful about unless you’ve done something wrong? Not saying he’s some type of sociopath or anything, but just strange the way you phrased that.

Anyways, you’ve answered where most of your symptoms probably came from (weather, waxing, etc.). That is much more likely than these being ARS symptoms. One week later is not the usual time frame for ARS to start. It’s usually at least 2 weeks. It’s not impossible, but very unlikely for ARS to start in that time frame. You said one week after the last encounter, so I guess if you had other encounters a week or two before that last one, then maybe it would be just a tiny bit more relevant (I stress “TINY BIT”, as in, still very unlikely that these would be ARS symptoms).

I would not worry about this at all because the “one week after” doesn’t match up and none of these are among the most common symptoms that show up in people. This doesn’t mean you don’t have HIV, it just means that these symptoms are most likely not an indicator of that and are unlikely to be related to HIV.
