Fighting Alcoholism: I Want to Stop Drinking Alcohol?

Question by Katie: I want to stop drinking alcohol?
Before anyone answers, I am NOT an alcoholic, I don’t drink vast amounts of alcohol, and I don’t do it often.
I am 18 years old (legally allowed to drink in the UK), and I don’t go out on nights our drinking or to house parties with lots of alcohol very often, but when I do, I seem to drink far too much. Either that or I just can’t handle the alcohol, and it leads me to get into tearful fights with my boyfriend and friends, be angry with people I barely know, and walking away by myself. I have had confidence issues linked to bullying in the past, and when I drink, these issues get brought up in my mind. I feel the only way to stop this happening is to stop drinking altogether, and limit myself to two drinks only on special occasions (Christmas, birthdays etc). I just need to know how to explain to my family friends and boyfriend why I am doing this, and how they can help me. Just wondering if anyone had any tips on how to make sure I stick to this?

If you find the answer there are millions of us alcoholics who want to know. All of us have tried and failed at drinking in moderation. I physically can NOT do it so i have to abstain. This is fulcrum of alcoholism “The first drink” (I know you don’t want to hear that… and i’m not labeling anyone as an alcoholic)

“First, the man takes a drink. Then, the DRINK takes a drink. Then the drink takes the man” -Ancient Japanese Proverb.
