Yes! You can probably expect one of two reactions:

#1. “Dont tell me what to do with my life…you arent perfect either…etc” or
#2. “I feel so guilty….I just cant handle the pain I have caused…I am a bad mother….I feel like having another drink to ease the pain.”

Both responses are normal, please try to get past her addiction talking and get to a place where you are honestly discussing the issue with your Mother (not with her addiction).

Be open and loving, tell her how you feel- honestly.

If you are not at a point where you can honestly tell her how you feel and the real impact her drinking is making on others/ herself then beware; she may be able to get you to cave and say something like “well its really not that bad” or “I have seen others with worse problems” be sure you are strong enough not to give her any excuses or anything to hold onto that would allow her to justify or excuse her actions.

Good luck!
