Powerless Over An Alcoholic

alcoholicsfriend.com Here’s the truth, we have no control over another person weather they are an alcoholic or not. Perhaps you understand all to well what I am talking about. All of the screaming, begging, pleading, arguing and manipulating was continuously rendered powerless over the alcoholic in my life. No matter how hard I tried to control their drinking habits, I encountered one disappointment after another. In 12-Step recovery groups, the first step says that we are powerless over alcohol and that our lives have become unmanageable. For those of us coping with a problem drinker, this step means we are powerless over an alcoholic, people, places or things. Just think about this for a moment, has anything that you have said or done made the alcoholic in your life quit drinking? Exactly my point, we really are powerless over an alcoholic. Once we realize this, we can begin to change our behaviors so that we will have less frustration to deal with in the arena of trying to change something that we cannot change.
