Why Does Alaska Have Such a High Crime Rate?

Question by Pete L: Why does Alaska have such a high crime rate?
I saw somewhere that Alaska has a very high crime rate. I find that unusual because of where it’s located and it’s population size. I had a hypothesis that it was because of the large number of Native Americans and alcohol abuse, but I’m not sure. Any answers?

Acutallly, Alaska’s crime rate is on the high side, but it’s not close to being the highest. Alaska had a crime rate of 3,604 per 100,000 in 2006. South Dakota was lowest 1,620 and Arizona has the highest at 4,628.

And my guess would be because everything in Alaska is so expensive. A lot of things have to be transported there from somewhere else.
