Please, Help Diagnose Me!?

Question by William H: Please, help diagnose me!?
I have developed some sort of alcohol intolerance. 3 plus years ago I could drink a lot, 8-10 drinks and have only a mild hangover or nothing at all.

– In the last 18 months I have notice a change in that, it has become so bad in the last 4 months that now I can only have one drink. Two is testing it and three is out of the question.

Even with one drink I feel a little off and within an hour of having two I feel sick, flushed, nausea, congested. I cannot even reach three because I feel too crappy before then but the last time I had 4 drinks I could barely get out of bed and when I did it was just to throw up. I felt like I had the flu.

-Liquor, beer or wine all have the same effects. Although with wine I can almost drink 2 glasses without regretting it.

-Some other info about me that may or may not help
I am 27. My entire life I have had issues with congestion usually from dust, change of seasons, cats. I get really itchy eyes and can barely breath I feel so congested.
I also have hypoglycemic type symptoms because if I don’t eat every 4 hours or so I start to feel weak and light headed and sick to my stomach. It gets really bad if I have an energy drink or something that makes me crash hard, then I have to eat something quick.
I often have trouble sleeping
I have a lot of anxiety, when I was younger I had trouble with panic attacks but have gotten that under control for the most part.
I am in pretty good physical condition and I have never been diagnosed with any health issues. I have mentioned the issues above to the doctor but they don’t seem to have much concern over me not being able to drink. I really don’t understand why they don’t have a concern over the “hypoglycemic symptoms” because it definitely a hindrance sometimes.

I save money by just going to the Veterans Clinic so I don’t really have an option to get second opinion. I guess next time I go I need to make a little more fuss about whats going on so they can look into it.

But until then, does anyone have any ideas of what is causing my Alcohol intolerance? Does any of the other little issues have anything to do with it?

I do not know what is causing the alcohol intolerance. Is it an allergy thing? Maybe. I think your body is trying to tell you something, and it would be best to listen to it.

Consider it a blessing from God. Let’s face it, there are plenty of good alternative beverages you can consume that do not contain alcohol. You do not need the alcohol. In the long run, you will be better off without it. And save money too. And if you do not drink, there is no risk that you will ever become an alcoholic. And no risk of getting arrested for drunk driving. That’s why I say not drinking alcohol is not a bad thing. It is a good thing. You just need to adjust your thinking.

Of course, this opinion is coming from a total non-drinker. I do not drink alcohol, and never have. My grandma used to tell me if you don’t have that first drink, you can never have the second. Good advice.
