Alcohol Abuse Quotes: My Roommates Drug Problems Are Escalating and I’m Not Sure What to Do?

Question by : My roommates drug problems are escalating and I’m not sure what to do?
I am a senior in college and last semester me and my brother moved into a 4 bedroom house that my cousin owned, he was also a college student going to a local college for his masters, the rent is cheaper and everything was great until we got someone to fill that 4th room in the house. The person my cousin chose to fill that room with was an 23 year old ex-convict that works odd jobs to make money. I have no problems with ex-convicts that are trying to turn their life around and earn an honest living, problem is that this ex-convict is not trying to turn his life around and earn an honest living, turns out not only does he do drugs but he grows them as well, only took me a week after he moved into notice that the light in his closet was always on and that weird noises were coming from it. My brother confronted our cousin about it and it turns out that the primary reason he allowed for this person to move in was because he had drug connections and he knew how to grow weed from one of his prior “odd jobs”. My brother and I went along with it for a while because we did not want to get our cousin in trouble, but its a semester later and things only seem to be progressing toward the deeper drugs. I’m not sure what I should do, things only seem to be getting worse, my cousin and his friend seem to mock me every time I tell them to get their drugs off of the tables in the living room and kitchen, and my drug-free attitude seems to annoy them and talks about drugs with them have proven fruitless in the past and will in the future I suspect.

Here is a little background information on my cousin; seems to be abusing these drugs and alcohol to cope with his inability to find a girlfriend, he often makes Misogynistic remarks about women anytime the subject of a girlfriend or conversations about women in a dating since ever come up. All of his friends are frat boys and their only idea of a good time is binge drinking until they cannot remember the night before. His brother’s wife recently filed for divorce because he quote “was addicted to marijuana”, his mom and dad seem to try and control him even long after moving away from their house and strictly oppose drugs or alcohol in any form.

The new roommate that moved in is recently out of jail for being the look out on some sort of home invasion that he has neglected to go into detail about, at some point in his past spent time on a pot growing farm, and has not gone a single day since I’ve known him completely sober, in one way or the other. His family almost completely disowns him from what I can tell and he seems unable to properly function in society outside of a drunks and druggies. The first time I met him he was tripping on heroine because one of his friends had mocked him for refusing to shoot up with him; when he isn’t stoned he is a hard worker, but when he isn’t stoned he is also looking for the next fix. His extreme extroverted nature and extreme drug use have lead to an extreme uneasiness between him and the non-drug using side of the household (my brother and I).

I am an extremely introverted person, I do not use drugs for numerous reason, I have never seen the use of drugs or alcohol as a positive thing and am a big proponent against drug use; I feel that most of the people my age don’t really understand why I feel the way I do and it causes problems some times. I also like the people around me to make their own decisions and I try to respect their opinion even if I do not agree with it; which is one of the reason things have gotten so bad. Most of the time people do not know what to think of me and often time form an opinion of me based on biased assumptions and little facts; I know how to speak a lot and say nothing about myself at all which is more of an unconscious defense mechanism at this point in my life. My brother and I are twins and the only real difference between us is that he is open to the idea of lighter drugs like weed and alcohol.

It is kind of long and probably convoluted at some points but if anyone has an advice for me I would happily take it.
@Stephen, that doesn’t answer my problems, my cousin is getting into deeper drugs than weed which is the problem, hes starting to use mushrooms and other drugs, I got him to agree to try and stop using drugs for 1 week a few weeks ago and he couldn’t go 3 days without smoking a joint. This isn’t about respect for the choices that people make It is pretty obvious that he is starting to show signs of addiction even it if isn’t physical addiction. I cannot be in a house with weed because I have bad lungs and being in a house that is constantly filled with smoke will kill me over a period of time.

GET OUT. Your either going to go crazy, or cave in if you stay. I’m against drugs too and I’d rather pay more money to live the way I want (without the presence of drugs) than spend less to be in a pot growing home. Disgusting.

EDIT: @stephen, IQ of 156 and still can’t spell.. with a spell checker right in your face? How intelligent.
