Signs of an Alcoholic Husband: Wedding Guest Problem?

Question by srvivor: Wedding Guest Problem?
I am having a hard time reconciling the idea of inviting guest to my wedding who last year all but ruined my sister’s wedding. The guest in question is my beloved aunt’s new husband, “Roy”. Roy is a lifelong hard drug addict which has left his brain quite crispy and his mental capacity very questionable. While the drugs are at the moment not in the picture, he is quite the alcoholic and has no social filter at all. At my sister’s wedding, he wolf-whistled and cat-called as she walked down the aisle, loudly interrupted their vows with “speak up!” and spurts of loud laughter for absolutely no reason, tried to cut-in on the father-daugher dance, put up a peace sign or rabbit ears in every photo, including posed family ones, and eventually threw up and passed out on one of the tables. My fiancĂ© and I recently drove 10 hours to visit and stay with my aunt and Roy and left after one day, it was that awful. Her own kids won’t even visit her anymore. My mom, myself and other family members have all spoken to her about Roy’s behavior and our concerns, and suggested she and my other aunt come to the wedding together. She promises that he was just going through a “phase” and is better now, and has made it very clear she won’t come without him. I love my aunt to pieces, she’s been like a second mom to me, yet the idea of having a repeat of my sister’s wedding at my own is keeping my stomach in knots. Any advice?

Don’t invite him. Send an invitation to her alone, and make it clear Roy will not be allowed in. She says she won’t come without him, but who knows she might change her mind. If not, well it’s not a huge loss. If she questions you, say that Roy “blew it” at your sister’s wedding and you’re not prepared to give him a second chance.
