Alcoholism – Please Help …?

Question by yssirhcx: Alcoholism – Please help …?
I have been researching on my own but I honestly feel I need frank answers from people here that are in recovery or perhaps are going through a similar situation…

Alcoholism has played a role in my life in a major way. I ended a 14 year relationship with an alcoholic but am still dealing with it through my brothers. I raised them from 11-20ish… We lost our parents young and they turned to drinking in their late teens. I have three brothers – all are addicts. One with drugs, and two alcoholics – one has been somewhat successful with AA but falls off now and then, the other falls off more often and still has a problem that he needs help with.

As of today, I am not speaking to any of them. Sad since it’s my only “family”. I have tried to help them and have been supportive in every way their entire lives. Currently they “hate” me… I find that they are emotionally hot and cold, lie, resent me for being successful and not turning to substance, etc. Sometimes I feel like I’m going insane… I really do. Two are holding their children as a tool from me – I haven’t seen my niece in years.

Please tell me … How the hell do I deal with this? Is this common with alcoholics to act one way and then do a 180 and act completely irrational? Is their something I’m missing or should know?

I should also add that one of their wives is a counselor who was raised (and abused by) and alcoholic father. She is also supportive of my brother’s irrational choices and I really have no voice of reason here.

Thanks in advance!
