Q&A: Harry Potter Fans! Do Any of You Find It Annoying That People Call Them Children’s Books/movies?
Question by Peyton!!: Harry Potter fans! Do any of you find it annoying that people call them children’s books/movies?
I mean seriously, with all the violence and killings in it, does it really make sense to call it a childrens book? Its for teens and Y adults. Theres some cursing and sexual content, and drinking. People think its a kids book because the main characters are, but these “children” are 17! In the 7th book, the are about 12 characters killed, some by stabbing or other non-magical causes. theres effing and two types of b words the trio drinks alcohol i believe and the romance and snogging? Plus they abuse children and cut and beat them, torture, and more. And I’m not some overreactive parent I’m 14, and i find this annoying because if they stopped calling them childrens books, then the movies wouldnt be so dumbed down and less mature, because despite the fact their labeled pg-13, parents bring 5 year olds anyway! since WB knows this, they make everything less serious than it is, so they can make money. I just think its unjust to call this series for kids as if its the magic tree house books
I’m not talking about say the first two. More about Deathly Hallows. The thing is the term children to some people means a ten year old–to some it means a five year old. I think they should be more specific when they say its a childrens book
not for me Allie-in my local Barnes and Noble, University Book Store, and Borders, they’re in the childrens. And in the Barnes and Noble they’re in a real babyish looking childrens section with cartoon charcters in it–it really doesn’t fit it.
