Fighting the Pain of Drug Addiction
Fighting the Pain of Drug Addiction
All across America the signs of drug addiction are clear. The evening news segments are often filled with the misfortunes of someone just trying to cope with life through habitual drug use. The condition has grown more and more out of control as the beginning stages of drug addiction in some form makes a statement in the young lives of high school students from their freshmen to senior years. A recent study from the e-Book, Drug Addiction-Stop Your Dependence, indicates that 23% of high school seniors admit to regular use of marijuana. Their use of marijuana regularly often escalates to more intense drugs as time progresses.
Drug addiction has no particular gender, race or status that it chooses. People from all walks of life become subject to addiction. Athletes, actors and other celebrity figures as well as everyday people have fallen prey to the false safety of whatever drug helps them deal with the pressures of life. Their dependency becomes the ruler of their lives. A spiritual perspective of addiction is given in the article The New Slave Master. The author writes, … “the New International Version of the Bible, we find in 2 Peter 2:19 in the latter part of the verse, “a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him”. In essence, my slave master isn’t even a person. I am a slave to my own addictions”.
Drugs that are purchased on the street aren’t the only drugs that people become addicted to. The e-Book mentioned in the first paragraph explains that prescription drugs also play a role in the addiction process as people become addicted to the euphoria that comes from certain prescribed pain relievers. Just as with illegal drugs, the medicines that are prescribed have no particular preference when it comes to who a person is, social background or profession.
The below list is indicative of drugs that you, me and perhaps someone we know may be addicted to:
Methamphetamine
Marijuana
Nicotine
Alcohol
Prescription Drugs
Cocaine
Crack
Heroin
This list of harmful drugs is not all inclusive. There is help from online and local sources that can help us beat the addiction phase in our lives and move toward a life of self improvement. Many people, because of embarrassment and pride, elect to seek help online. If we notice signs of addiction in ourselves, friends and family members, we must make the first step and acknowledge our problem and kick the habit.
