A Word a Day, a Video a Day: Comfort

We all want it. Sadly, some look in all the wrong places. Drugs. Alcohol. Food. People can abuse most anything in pursuit of comfort. We see it on TV shows like Hoarders and Intervention. People find comfort in some awfully strange places. The mind wants what it wants – and the mind is always seeking comfort. Just yesterday I read a blog post about a young man with promising skills, talents and bright future. He decided he couldn’t find any comfort anywhere. At 27, he took his own life. The story is disturbing on many levels for me. Enormous sadness swept over me around 9pm last night as I read his suicide note, and followed the various links – trying to piece together the life, and death, of a young man I had never heard of until last night. I admit today’s word isn’t random, like the others. Today’s word is very intentional. It’s on my mind. We all need enough comfort to keep on pursuing a better life with full intention. Challenges, pain, obstacles and disappointment are universal to mankind. It’s comfort that helps us through.
