Should I Have Driven? (Drinking)?
Question by John D: Should I have driven? (drinking)?
OK, so I had never drank at a party before tonight.
I got there around 10:30 and started drinking captain and coke, I had what was at most 4 shots, but probably 3, and stopped drinking by 11:45 or so. I got a buzz but did not want to get drunk so I stopped. The buzz had completely gone away by about 12:45, and sometime after 1 AM my friend wanted me to take her for a drive. She was wasted. We drove around for a bit and I had no trouble, then we were heading towards a 4 way stop, but the stop sign looked like it was for the road crossing the road I was on and had just gotten turned around a bit, so I wasn’t thinking about stopping yet, and she said “stop sign!”. I stopped and everything was ok. We turned around and went back unharmed.
Here’s the issue, I NEVER miss stop signs, I’m a really good driver, so I feel that I may still have been impaired and might not have stopped had she not spoke up, and that makes me feel terrible. Only losers put other’s lives in danger. Was this a fluke or was I impaired? Does loosing the buzz mean the alcohol is out of your system? I definitely had no buzz, so I thought I was ok.

Don’t be so hard on yourself, honey. Take this as a learning lesson, and vow not to make the same mistake twice. Someone up above, wants you to do more in this life, so he/she gave you another chance. If you do drink from now on, just make sure to stay home, or have a designated driver.
