Bar and Nightclubs Safety ? Preventing Drink
Drink spiking is probably one of the most disgraceful acts someone can perpetrate at a bar or nightclub. It’s a pathetic act that to our mind deserves to be treated by the courts as seriously as grievous bodily harm and kidnapping.
Most people have known a friend that has fallen victim to this act in a bar or nightclub. I’ve had a few friends that have had this happen to them, however luckily they were with people that were able to look after them. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the crime as well as the bar and nightclub environment, most perpetrators are never caught.
Statistically, about 25% of sexual assaults reported involve being drugged however this varies from country to country.
Nevertheless, drink spiking is something that any bar and nightclub enthusiast should be aware of. Although it is a problem, it should definitely not deter people from going out clubbing and partying at their favourite bar or nightclub.
Below are just a few practical things you can do in order to reduce the likely hood of being a victim of drink spiking.
Strangers Buying You Drinks
If a hot guy comes up to you and offers you a drink, say yes but go to the bar with him. Bars and nightclubs are social places, where people meet and have fun. 99.999999% of guys out there are genuinely interested in you and not going to spike your drink. In saying that, it is better to be safe than sorry so go with him. In our opinion, a drink spiker is probably too much of a loser to go up to a girl in the first place.
Keep Your Drinks Nearby
Drink spikers tend to target drinks left unattended. This is why it is not uncommon for guys drinks to get spiked as guys and girls drink a lot of the same drinks. Make sure if you go to the bathroom, you leave your drinks with friends and if you do leave your drink somewhere… just keep an eye on it.
Symptoms of Drink Spiking
Feeling dizzy, feeling ill or tired, passing out, feeling intoxicated although you haven’t had much to drink. If you feel this way, tell your friends and get them to take you home. By the same token, if you are at a bar or nightclub with friends, then keep an eye on each other.
All instances of drink spiking should be reported to the relevant authorities in your country (which you can find by googling “report drink spiking.”
But whatever you do, don’t let acts of drink spiking preoccupy you and run your night out with friends. Although serious, it is still comparatively rare, so have fun at your favourite bars and nightclubs.
