Q&A: My Friend Has a Bad Home Life, What Can I Do?
Question by Kristy: my friend has a bad home life, what can i do?
this is about one of my best friends, she’s 16 like me, and she comes off as a normal teenager. she’s very bubbly, pretty, popular, and comes from a middle class family. however, because i know her so well, i know about her home life. her dad died when she was 13 and her 2 siblings are in their 20’s and both live at home. Both her siblings and her mom, especially, are alcoholic (since the dad’s death). “functional alcoholics” if you will. They get up and go to work and seem to live average, successful lives, but every night they come home and get totally wasted. Then, sometimes her mom brings guys home with her. I get texts from my friend saying “i hate my family”, “can i move in with you”, “my moms in bed with some guy right now”, etc. It’s not like she’s being abused, but i feel so truly bad for her. This stuff is only known to our close group of friends, no one else in the community. Any advice?? I never know what to tell her when it comes up or if i can help… :(

Let her move in with you. Tell the cops and get her parents into treatement and it will help them get better so she can love them again.
