How Have You Personally Dealt With the “alcoholic” in Your Life?

Question by Anne99: How have you personally dealt with the “alcoholic” in your life?
For me, I would always do the wrong things…like picking up after him(my last ex-boyfriend) and try to lecture him..etc..which never ever worked..and or hide all of the beer that he would buy and or his cigarettes…of course that didn’t help either! What have you done to try to “help’ your “alchie”?
Did it ever help or improve,or did you find yourself with a ton of resentment and hatred in your heart and soul?
what finally happened?
(I am no longer with this person, Thank God!!!)
I did attend the alanon groups, for many, many years! After awhile I grew just tired of going…because I would also get really down in the dumps! Sometimes they were great though, so,I don’t knock the groups…I am really grateful for them…they are good groups for people!!!!
Also, my ex- he ended up with schizophrenia(hearing voices…either induced by too much alcohol, or already being sick with it..and never knew it!)
It’s a shame…but he IS doing a LOT better, as far as I know…he’s just a bit lonely is all!
He (my ex boyfriend) does go to meetings at A.A. which is terrific! THAT I can say, “wonderful for him, truly wonderful!”

Dealing With Alcohol Withdrawal

Dealing With Alcohol Withdrawal

Alcohol withdrawal typically occurs when a person who has been drinking for a long duration or a person who drinks frequently or drinks heavily suddenly stops drinking. Not all who stop drinking suffer from alcohol withdrawal and some may even get away with mild and moderate symptoms that can be overcome with a healthy diet and sufficient doses of vitamins. It is the people who suffer from severe symptoms of alcohol withdrawal who may require medical attention and sometimes hospitalization.

A frequent heavy drinker will suffer from withdrawal symptoms in about 6-10 hours post the last consumption of alcohol. These symptoms peak within 2 to 3 days of alcohol withdrawal and last for more than a week. Symptoms may also become aggravated if the person suffers from other medical disorders.
