Symptoms Of Schizophrenia

The symptoms of schizophrenia are not always constant, and will vary between people. They even change over time for any given patient.

There are two classes of symptoms for schizophrenia, according to the DSM-IV (the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th edition). Some are considered positive symptoms and some are negative. These terms are not used in the context of “good” or “bad”, but rather they describe symptoms that have been added to your behavior or symptoms where certain behaviors are lost or lacking.

Positive Symptoms

The general public is more familiar with the positive symptoms, because they can be dramatic and very visible behaviors. The specific delusions will vary from patient to patient, but a person with schizophrenia will tend to repeat their own particular delusions with each psychotic episode.

Question by littletex51378: Does anyone know what low testosterone symptoms are in boys who haven’t reach puberty?
I was told a year ago my son was aspergers, now they say he doesn’t have it. That it might be epilepsy. They said that he has low testosterone and refered him to a specialist but they won’t say if his “asperger like symptoms” are caused from the low hormones. Please if you’r not positive of your answer do not reply, Im so worn down by wrong information. Please help me try to find some answers.

That is easily verified by a blood test.

More importantly, have his mineral levels checked. Low levels of magnesium and zinc are common in developmental disorders. That needs to be a cumulative URINE or HAIR test – not the typical doctor’s cheap blood test. Also check for food allergies (IgG, not IgE). If there are any naturopathic doctors in your area, find one who is experienced with children.

ALOGIA , OR POVERTY OF SPEECH,IS A GENERAL LACK OFAs a symptom, it is commonly seen in patients suffering from Schizophrenia. It can complicate psychotherapy severely because of the considerable difficulty in holding a fluent conversation.

Avolition is a psychological state characterized by general lack of desire, motivation, and persistence. Commonly seen in patients with schizophrenia, those suffering from avolition will not start or complete any major tasks. This differs from anhedonia, where patients generally find task completion pleasureless.
