Fighting Alcoholism: I Want to Stop Drinking Alcohol?
Question by Katie: I want to stop drinking alcohol?
Before anyone answers, I am NOT an alcoholic, I don’t drink vast amounts of alcohol, and I don’t do it often.
I am 18 years old (legally allowed to drink in the UK), and I don’t go out on nights our drinking or to house parties with lots of alcohol very often, but when I do, I seem to drink far too much. Either that or I just can’t handle the alcohol, and it leads me to get into tearful fights with my boyfriend and friends, be angry with people I barely know, and walking away by myself. I have had confidence issues linked to bullying in the past, and when I drink, these issues get brought up in my mind. I feel the only way to stop this happening is to stop drinking altogether, and limit myself to two drinks only on special occasions (Christmas, birthdays etc). I just need to know how to explain to my family friends and boyfriend why I am doing this, and how they can help me. Just wondering if anyone had any tips on how to make sure I stick to this?

Many woman campaigned for prohibition as hard as they campaigned for the right to Vote (Suffrage). Alcohol was blamed for spousal and child abuse as well as other crimes. Many people believed that by banning alcohol it would eliminate these crimes in the future.
In actuality, spousal and child abuse continued and is still a problem today and crime actually increased during prohibition. It is believed that the reason the 18th and 19th amendments passed is because of the number of men overseas during WWI who were unable to vote.
