Trying to Help My Angry Alcoholic Drug Abusing Sister. PLEASE HELP.?

Question by Evana Sherbert: trying to help my angry alcoholic drug abusing sister. PLEASE HELP.?
my 18 year old sister is a severe alcoholic. i know she uses drugs, but i am not sure of what kind and how often. she is living with her boyfriend who has been to many different rehabs across the country and either gets kicked out or just leaves the program. he was addicted to intravenous heroin and alcohol. and is exceedingly wealthy and pays for all the drugs and alcohol, he is an ultimate enabler. he tells her that i am a liar and that i am trying to control her life by trying to help her, and that i am really not trying to help her at all. they hang out with two guys that the boyfriend met in rehab who have relapsed. my sister just got out of jail for putting a ciggarette out on her boyfriends neck and for punching him repeatedly in the face resulting in a black eye. someone that was in the house called the cops on them, and the boyfriend wouldnt press charges. i tried to pick her up from the jail and the boyfriend lied to me about what time she was getting out so i couldnt. i was going to try to have an “informal intervention” with her. i am at a loss. she was completely un phased by this experience, and is always un phased by the catastrophes that come from her addiction. i just recently found out that she was date raped by an acquaintance who house she was couch surfing at awhile ago, and my mother says that she fears that, that wasnt the first time she was date raped. she is showing signs of jaundice and is sick alot of the time. she can not control herself. this time it was a cigarette but maybe next time it will be a knife, and i am terrified and feel nauseous and overwhelmed from trying to help her. she has been stealing money from me and i just dont know what to do! i have been searching online for hours trying to think of something.
she is also the most avoident person there is. please any advice will greatly help!

Q&A: A Little Confused, Not Sure What Kind of Help I Need, but I Know I Might Be an Alcoholic?

Question by This girl: A little confused, not sure what kind of help I need, but I know I might be an alcoholic?
I am and have been struggling with the idea of being an alcoholic for a few years now. The first time I was 20 and I worked at a bar, I was fed alcohol while working, and invite to numerous after parties, I worked as much as I could, at least 5/6 nights a week, then my so called fiance got together with my brother and had me admitted into a hospital, they recommended inpatient treatment, it took about a week for availability, but at that point my LOVE, my boyfriend, literally told me he would not be waiting for me if I went, so I didnt go, now 4 years later, I still struggle, the only difference is that I am married to a real man, and we have children, I grew up with an alcoholic, and I WANT to be different for my kids, but I have hidden this problem from EVERYONE, I binge drink while everyone is asleep, I am so afraid to get help, I am so afraid everyones first reaction is gonna be “you dont drink that much” and “you arent an alcoholic” please somebody give me words of encouragement?
PS To Sara S.
I guarentee you, you stupid little person, that if you said any of that to my face, I would crush your pathetic little A S S, so go on and be the B I T C H that you are, but just know that your account will not last long.

How Can I Help My Dad Stop Drinking Too Much Alcohol?

Question by xoxox: How can I help my dad stop drinking too much alcohol?
Okay so, my dad used to be an alcoholic, then my mom made him take all the alcoholic beverages out of the house, then he stopped drinking. Now he started up drinking heavily again, and my mom and myself kept telling him he should stop drinking again, but he never took it too seriously. And earlier today I told him again, and a couple hours later; he comes up to me and says “can you help me stop drinking” (I’m only 14 but I’m extremely mature) and I asked “are you seriously” and “how do I help” and that is the most shocking thing I’ve even heard out of my father’s mouth, but I need help helping him, any advice please?

Q&A: Should I Believe My Probation Officer or the Law School Admissions Official? Please Help.?

Question by Katie: Should I Believe My Probation Officer Or The Law School Admissions Official? Please Help.?
I was convicted of DUI at age 18. However, I completely quit drinking and how have a 3.8 GPA. I will be applying to law school the fall of my senior year.

Anyways, I asked my probation officer whether I could still be a lawyer even though I was convicted of DUI. She replied “Well, we do have a couple judges here that are alcoholics. (She insists that I am a raging alcoholic “in denial.”) However, those judges got DUIs AFTER law school so it was different.”

Her mentality is that it is okay for someone to get a DUI if it is AFTER law school and after being a prosecutor/judge. However, an admissions counselor at the law school that I visited claimed that it was the exact opposite. They say that some people make mistakes as teenagers but then they mature and grow out of it. They said that a DUI as a teengaer won’t be a problem but a DUI in law school or as a practicing attorney would.

It is almost impossible to help someone who is convinced he/she does not need it. Usually circumstances must be so bad they realize their need. Denial is a primary characteristic of Alcoholism. It is a defense mechanism that will not allow one to admit the truth when an unhealthy habit is felt to be necessary for happiness or functional existence.
