Q&A: How Can I Stop My Grandfather From Accusing Me of Being an Alcoholic?

Question by Felon’sDaughter: How can I stop my grandfather from accusing me of being an alcoholic?
My grandpa and I go out to eat every few months. This is the only time I get to go to a nice restaurant where they serve adult beverages. When I ask for a drink, he says, “Well I hope you don’t become an alcoholic!” even though he usually drinks when we go out. I am 21, so I WILL order a drink like people do when they go out. How can I get my grandpa not to say that?

Q&A: Recovery From Alcoholism. I Go to More Meetings Than He Does. Is That Dangerous?

Question by NorthernCA/FL: Recovery from alcoholism. I go to more meetings than he does. Is that dangerous?
I have 18 months, he has three years. He was a drug addict as well (me, too–speed, but primary alcohol). In the beginning, we talked all the time about our program, our meetings, sponsors, Higher Power, etc. It has been five months that we have been seeing each other. He is also working nights, and going to school part time. I have noticed that he goes to a meeting a week, and is pretty cynical about the “sappy” people in AA, who “hide in the program.” I am one of the sappy ones…AA saved my life.
