Drug and Alcohol Relapse Prevention
Drug and Alcohol Relapse Prevention
Alcoholics or drug addicts in the recovery process would like to sit back and count the days of their sobriety and watch as they turn into months, years and hopefully the rest of their lives. But they may be afraid they’ll hear those dreaded footsteps of alcohol or drug abuse once more and face a devastating relapse. Can drug and alcohol relapse occur suddenly like waking up to a nightmare? Should a person be worried about losing the battle against alcoholism or drug addiction without a clear fight? And if the person slips again, will it be the “end of the world?”
Relapse is very real, but if it happens, it doesn’t have to spell catastrophe. After all, the patient was down that road before and overcame drug and alcohol addiction through treatment. The actual rate of alcohol and drug relapse is so high — medical experts have put it at about 90 percent — that it’s often considered part of the drug and alcohol recovery process. But achieving recovery doesn’t have to mean hitting “rock bottom” again and again.

Drug Abuse; as “the War on Drugs” Clearly Hasn’t Worked, What Can We Do Instead?
Question by Phil K: Drug abuse; As “the war on drugs” clearly hasn’t worked, what can we do instead?
Drug abuse is a horrible thing that does destroy people’s lives. Unfortunately the government’s method of addressing this problem, making them all illegal and proclaiming “Zero Tolerance,” clearly hasn’t worked. Drug abuse is more prevalent today than ever before. So what can we do to better address this problem? I don’t think legalizing and taxing drugs is a good idea as that would probably increase drug abuse.
Incidentally the way drugs have been prohibited or legalized has been very logically inconsistent. Alcohol is more addictive than marijuana and tobacco is more unhealthy than the same.
I’m curious to hear any ideas anyone might have, no matter how unusual.
