A Teenage Experience of Drinking and Teenage Alcohol Treatment

A Teenage Experience of Drinking and Teenage Alcohol Treatment

A teen treatment center at Chicago which specializes in alcohol addiction treatment among other rehabilitative procedures has a poignant story to tell about teen addiction towards alcohol. Keith Whittaker; 15 years old, was a bright student, always doing brilliantly in his studies and baseball.  He nursed a crush on a girl who was in the 10 grade (Keith was in the 9th grade), called Nancy.

Keith’s problem was that he was unusually shy and would always make his performances at sports and academics speak for him.  He however became friends with Nancy and both of them would go out on dates. But soon Keith came to know that this girl had a big group of guys and girls who would meet on the weekends and go clubbing or at parties.

Binge Drinking

Binge drinking is a public health issue and holds consequences for not only those who participate in drinking activities, but others in the community. It is important to understand the definition of binge drinking and the consequences that may occur. Among the medical community, the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) defines binge drinking or a binge as a pattern of drinking alcohol that brings Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) to about 0.08 gram-percent or above (Cranford, McCabe, et. al, 2006). It further states for the typical adult, this pattern corresponds to consuming 5 or more drinks (male) or 4 or more drinks (female) in about two hours (Cranford, McCabe, et. al, 2006). Binge drinking puts unhealthy amounts of alcohol in ones body all at one time and makes decision making extremely difficult. This addictive behavior is active across many college campuses in the United States. Research from the Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research Journal (Cranford, McCabe, et. al, 2006) indicates over 60% of college students have participated in at least one episode of binge drinking in the past year. Those that are at high risk include Caucasian students, athletes, fraternity and sorority members, and heavy drinkers during precollege years. Other students who believe that alcohol use and heavy drinking are an integral part of college life are more likely to engage in high-risk drinking behaviors (Kelly-Weeder, 2008). This type of activity leads to many

Quitting Drinking Cold Turkey vs. Quitting Slowly

Quitting Drinking Cold Turkey Vs. Quitting Slowly

Quitting drinking cold turkey could be the craziest ride of your life. Most alcoholics succeeded in getting over their dependence by taking one step at a time. People at the other end of the spectrum who decided to suddenly stop may have also succeeded, but they may have a totally different story to share– perhaps a whole lot more dramatic.

When you have come to the end of the line and it finally dawned on you that it’s time to make a change, you got two choices: face a slow change or jump onto a big one. The decision will actually depend on how badly you want to get to the goal and the kind of personality you have. You see, some people like taking things slow while others just can’t wait to get where they want. In all honesty though, taking things slow may be more advisable when you are dealing with alcoholism.

An Alcohol Alternative Would Be Invented to Solve the Problem of Alcohol Drinking

An Alcohol Alternative Would Be Invented to Solve the Problem of Alcohol Drinking

Scientists are trying to invent an alcohol alternative, which can give people the satisfying feeling of drinking alcohol but not drunk. Besides, there would be no headache after sobering. After drinking the new alcohol, you will immediately wake up by only one pill. It is not a problem to drive car whether go home or go back to work. Scientists are refining this synthesis of “alcohol” from the sedative drug-related chemicals and the synthesis of “alcohol” can be the same as regular alcohol-related to stimulate our nerves in brain. However, ordinary alcohol is different from the synthetic “alcohol”, which will not affect other parts of the brain and can also easily be discharged from our body.

Drinking Teens – Serious Consequences for Parents

Drinking Teens – Serious Consequences for Parents

As an adult you know you did plenty of stupid things when you were a teen. Maybe that’s why teen drinking is a growing problem. Maybe our guilt as parents prevents us from being too strict about teenage drinking. To add fuel to the fire, hundreds of times a day our children see and hear TV, radio and Internet messages that support and/or glamorize getting drunk. On TV when someone gets a raise they have a drink. When they finalize their divorce they have a drink. When they feel depressed they have a drink. When they need a few laughs they have a drink.
