My mum is an alcoholic and I was thinking about going to alateen for support, as I am only 15. Has anyone got any experience or knowledge about it? Any info on it like whether it was good, supportive, motivating etc or not, would be very helpful. Thanks x

YEs, I would definetly suggest going. Alcoholism is a disease that effect everyone that cares for the alcoholic.
I would suggest that you go to at least 3 or 4 meetings before you decide if it is for you or not. Just going to 1 meeting and blowing it off is a waste of time.

I never drink till the point of being hammered. But whenever I’m under some sort of stress & pressure, I resort to alcohol. Do you think my father’s history of alcoholism might have affected my behavior?
Whoever said I was blaming him? I’m curious about the psychology within family dynamics and whether or not there’s any correlation between past and present. If you cannot answer intellectually, well, there’s your problem.

No…nobody makes u pick up a habit but yourself…if you know u have a drinking problem then fix it. You are not an alcoholic though..because an alcoholic never relizes they have a drinking problem

does anyone know what percent of rehabilitated people get out and dont do the same mistake agian??? (i.e.- they would use drugs daily, went to rehab, then when they got out they quit completly)
i searched yahoo, google, and ask jeeves. i did all of my project and this is just a small part of it wich isnt really gonna be graded so keep your useless coments to yourself

Rehabs often claim amazing results, but the reality is less than spectacular.
