Alcoholic Spouse: Looking for Reputable Sites With Information Regarding Therapy for Past Alcoholics?
Question by supppkayla: Looking for reputable sites with information regarding therapy for past alcoholics?
To consider privacy matters, I’m going to call the alcoholic “Harry” and the spouse “Sally.”
Harry was an alcoholic for years, and verbally, mentally and physically abused his family (children and wife, although he never laid a hand on the wife.) Finally, a few years ago, the police were involved and Harry was taken to jail for the night for domestic violence. Sally then gave Harry an ultimatum: sober up or leave. He has not touched a drink or hit his family since that night, but the verbal and mental abuse still continues. Harry was kicked out for practically this whole summer, but was allowed to come back to the house. And yet, the abuse still continues. Sally seems to be too blinded by love to see that Harry is tearing her family apart. He refuses to go to AA because “it’s too depressing,” and refuses to go to counseling for his problems because “he isn’t the problem.” However, for about two years he forced his children and wife to go to counseling to fix their “problems.”
Harry is my father; I will be moving out soon and I will not be able to leave in good conscience knowing that Harry is emotionally killing my mother.
