Alcoholics Signs: Isn’t This Misuse of Language?

Question by Not My Real Name or Face: Isn’t this misuse of language?

Shouldn’t they just be called a “workic”? Or how about a “chocoholic” just being called a “chocolatic”? And as long as we are on this subject, why is it a “drug addict” and not a “drugoholic” or more correctly a “drugic”? I find this whole matter quite troubling.
