When to Cut Off Relations With an Alcoholic Sibling?
Question by Fran D: When to cut off relations with an alcoholic sibling?
My older brother has been an alcoholic for over 30 years. Detox, private treatment on multiple occasions to no avail. Numerous lost jobs, broken relationships, health issues, etc. Still he drinks. And then he will call, and ramble incoherently and generally cause all matter of stress and anger. When my mother was alive, I would go out of my way to try to help him: invite him to stay with me, support him, introduce him to my friends, encourage him to attend AA or treatment or both, try to get him on his feet. This never worked, and inevitably there would be some meltdown which would result in a tremendous fight and on one memorable occasion I had to have him evicted because he was destroying my property.
Alcoholic “Peach Sweet Tea?”?
Question by Kate: alcoholic “peach sweet tea?”?
I went to a bar last weekend that is famous for a particular beverage that tastes like peach sweet tea. I’ll leave the name of the bar and drink anonymous, but the bartender told me that the beverage contains sweet tea as a base, peach vodka, peach schnapps, grain alcohol, and mint. I was not completely schwasted by the time I consumed this beverage, so I remember that it was delicious and strong, but I could not taste the alcohol. Including ice, the beverage was about 16.5 ounces (it was in a solo cup).
Being from Georgia, peaches and sweet tea are staples. I’d like to re-create this beverage without paying $ 8 plus tip for a glass. Does anyone want to take a swing at what proportions I should use? I’m considering making mint-infused simple syrup to sweeten the tea instead of just dumping tons of sugar and stirring for a day and a half.

My Brother,a Diagnosed Alcoholic, Has Hand Tremors Which He Says Is Parkinsons Disease. True?
Question by Pam H: My brother,a diagnosed alcoholic, has hand tremors which he says is Parkinsons Disease. True?
He takes no medication and, unfortunately, has no intention of stopping his drinking. This entire scenario has recently become more serious since my Mom (who always referred to AA as a “group of religious fanatics”, stating more than once, he “didn’t NEED to go to AA because he wasn’t an alcoholic”) passed 3mos. ago. He has received SSDisability for 10 years based on a diagnosis of “mental illness”; and my mother’s ability (and influence being a politician) finding a psychiatrist who would say this and the fact he was getting a divorce, moving back to my parents, and hadn’t worked in years! My mother and I parented in very different ways, but I still loved her; I just didn’t understand her.In addition to his alcoholism he is also a pathological liar and actually collected SSDisability AND worked a full-time job for 3 yrs…until he was caught. Of course my Mom blamed the guy at SS who “lied” to my brother…oh, well.

beapartoftheheart.com The myth of drinking and drugs adding to the creativity of artists is not true according to David Kushner. Most alcoholics are well meaning, and don’t intend to allow the effects of alcohol abuse to ruin their lives, but they don’t know how to live sober.
