Q&A: Marijuana “addiction”?

Question by Jared W: Marijuana “addiction”?
Now, I agree that marijuana has the potential to be addictive psychologically, not chemically. My evidence to support this is, people (in my experience) only show signs of being “addicted” to it when they can’t have it, not when they don’t have it. Example, my friend “Jim” (im using this name because I’m unaware if anybody who knows him uses yahoo answers) made a promise to himself to not smoke for 3 months, and only days later he was wanting marijuana, but would quickly forget about it, and that is about as bad as it got, at that time he had been, and still is, a long-time marijuana user. To show why I believe this is psychological, I have seen him go for weeks without smoking, without feeling the want or need for it, he was able to smoke at any time during those weeks, he just didn’t choose to, and the whole time he hadn’t been affected even the slightest from it. I personally have gone months without it (I am currently off it right now), and I have felt no need to smoke, but I also haven’t been a smoker as long as him. I wanna know everyones thoughts on marijuana “addiction”, please only serious responses, Do you think its addictive? if so how? if not why? (Again I dont believe its “addictive” any more than the person in question allows it to be)
