Boyfriend Jokes About Being Abusive? Is This a Warning Sign?
Question by peaches11: Boyfriend jokes about being abusive? is this a warning sign?
I have a fantastic relationship with my boyfriend, but there are certain things that he does that make me wonder (particularly after watching a couple oprah shows on early warning signs of abuse)- my boyfriend makes jokes about things that if done not “jokingly” would be considered warning signs- he’ll be like “what’d I say, woman?” and then I’ll shoot him a dirty look and he’ll crack up- or I’ll say no to something and he’ll be like “don’t you…” and then raise his hand like a threat- and again I”ll shoot him a dirty look and he’ll laugh- sometimes he’ll add (if I say, thats not funny) “i’m just kidding” and then switch back to his serious voice and say “no I’m not”- and then laugh again- Honestly I’ve never felt threatened, and his mannerisms and attitude seem to be very joking- I was never concerned until I saw that show, and I guess now I’m paranoid (for the record, he doesn’t do anything else seen as “a warning sign” no swearing, no derogatory comments, gentle, and respectful)
In fact, if you were to look at a list of traits of a person would could turn abusive, I fit more of the categories- he hardly fits one- yet I know I’m not abusive- am I just being paranoid after watching that show?
Also, another of my thoughts is that it could be a childish way of expressing himself- think of the little boys on the playground who pinch girls because they like them but don’t know how to act maturely- we’re not teenagers anymore, but we’re not that old either, and I know he feels very seriously about me, and I do have a more mature personality
Question About Alcoholism and Depression…?
Question by Elizabeth: Question about alcoholism and depression…?
If someone has alcoholism, can they be given a second diagnosis of depression? Or is it generally assumed that the alcohol causes the depression?
I’m leaning towards two separate diagnoses, because they depression seems to have run in the family, alcoholism not so much.
(I’m not actually diagnosing someone…it’s for a project… XD If I were a doctor I’d hope I wouldn’t’ have to come on Yahoo Answers for these kinds of questions…)
Let’s say I was giving a diagnosis for a psychological disorder… Would saying:
“He suffers from alcohol abuse ”
be correct?
