Question by Hae: Can my mom go to jail for this?

My mom is getting a divorce from my step-dad. He’s a very sick man, he has a lifelong history of illnesses and he has liver problems from alcohol drinking to the point of not being able to walk right. He’s very mean, and was abusive to my mother their entire relationship. They have been together eleven years, but only married about four.
Anyways, my step-father is threatening my mother that he has a lot of things on her and can get her in prison, and I want to know if this is possible despite how abusive he is to both me, and her. We never stepped up to press charges. Mom was always too afraid of him. He was abusive to me from the ages of about 12 to 15, and sometimes when I was a little girl. I’m 16 now. My grandma had a heart attack and two strokes, and mom went to Ohio where my grandma is. My step-dad came along.
We had just gotten a new dog at the time who was horribly destructive. That dog mutually belonged to my step-dad and mother, and it destroyed the couch and chewed up a lot of things. It was still legally both their dog, but does that mean my mom can get in trouble for the damage that dog caused? He also wants to claim that she destroyed the house by kicking the doors in and making messes everywhere, which she did not.
He wants to say that my mother abused him and took advantage of his sicknesses to spend his money as she pleased, and that she illegally forged his name because he refused to pay for anything, so she had to pay for all the bills and do the work and sign his name on things like checks, which was where all the money went. They also stayed at a hotel for around 5-6 months while she was with my grandma. He complained the whole time about wanting to go home, but all the times my mom attempted to get him to go, he’d refuse and say “maybe later.” Eventually, he had his mother pick him up to make mom look bad. He’s had a history of sickness, despite he’s not as sick as he acts. He can walk and only acts like he can’t. At the hotel, he had his credit cards, money, cellphone, and a hotel phone with him at all times, all he wanted to do was lay in bed and refused to leave. Could he say she “abused” him and left him there and took advantage of him despite he could have left whenever he wanted? She also brought him healthy food, but he refused to eat anything but junk food.
My mom has become horribly paranoid, and she believes everyone is against her. and is spying on her for him. She’s clearly mentally destroyed now over all of this, to the point she actually needs some form of medication because of all the things he’s done to her have destroyed her mentality.
I haven’t been to school since mid-fourth grade. The reason for this was because my step-dad would yell all night long and keep me up. When morning came I couldn’t go to class. I’d become stressed, my stomach would hurt, and I’d get sick. I was eventually taken out of school. I’ve been home schooled since, but, I’m not the smartest anymore, and I’m very, very behind in school. Terribly. Could he use this against her, despite it was primarily his fault, as he didn’t want us to leave the house either?
When mom decided to leave him finally, she had my sister and I pack up all our stuff, leaving his behind, and move it all out. She also took a lot of money out of one of their joint accounts. It belonged to both of them. My mom is mentally unwell and very afraid after all he’s done to her. Worst still, she’s even went to police officers who didn’t take her seriously, and lawyers who thought she was just nuts. He sweet-talked her after serving her divorce papers, got her to come up to Michigan for a few days, and got her to give all that money back. She’s afraid of him and very mentally unwell after all he’s done to her emotionally and mentally. He and his family then abused her mentally and emotionally.
He intends to hide the money and say that she didn’t give it back and still has it. About 30,000 of it is missing because she used it to pay for bills and the hotel fees. She’s too paranoid all the lawyers are against her to find a good one, and most somehow sided with him when she told her story. Her court date is in a week for when the divorce happens, she’s positive she’s going to jail. She won’t really do much to defend herself because she’s so frightened, she still doesn’t have a lawyer.
Can he do this to her? My mom and I are the ones who take care of my grandma, whom can’t walk or anything. If she does, I lose my home at grandma’s since she’ll have to go into a nursing home and sell the house. My uncle will get rid of my pets and all my stuff. My mom is going crazy, she’s considering suicide and I’m so scared to lose my mother. I love my mom so much, she’s the best there is, even with her flaws, she always took such good care of me. Question by Mizzy Hunt: Are there Alcoholic Anonymous treatment facilities that will let you work to pay for your treatment?
A friend of mine is an Alcoholic and has just about reached her rock bottom. The disease has cost her 3 jobs in the last 6 months. Her family is not interested in learning how to help her with her disease but they are falling apart dealing with her problems. I think she needs to find a facility away from her family so she can focus on her recovery, very similar to the show Intervention.

Are there Recovery facilities in the US that have programs where the person can work to pay for their stay and treatment? My friend has no money and will be homeless if her family didn’t intervene and help? Does anyone have advice?
